What I do
Every chair at the table.
I have led as a conductor, run a business as its CEO, taught as an educator, played as an orchestral musician, governed as a board member, and built as a founder. Each perspective sharpens the others — and together they are what I bring to a music institution that needs both artistry and a working balance sheet.
Running the institution
Twenty-three years as founder and CEO of a private music academy: hiring, payroll, facilities, curriculum, marketing, and the quiet administrative rhythm that keeps a school healthy year after year.
$8,000 first year to a quarter-million-dollar operationMoney that holds through hard years
Growth through the 2008 recession and a pandemic without interruption and without debt — diversified revenue, curriculum licensing, an acquisition, and a disciplined move to cash-positive operations.
70–80% client retention, year over yearOn the podium
Conductor and substitute conductor, most recently with the Toronto Concert Band — including half of its Fall 2026 concert at the Glenn Gould Studio. Programming built around a single organising idea, not a shopping list.
Programme design · rehearsal craftInside the orchestra
National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the Vancouver Philharmonic, the Brampton Symphony, and contract work across British Columbia and Ontario. Musicians’ union member, and unionized theatre staff at the Chan Centre.
Both sides of the bargaining tableTeaching and the school
Educator first: 4 teachers to 20, under 50 students to 200, one location to eleven. A music school works as an audience engine when it is run as one.
Curriculum, retention, credentialed programsBuilding the tools
Founder of a software platform, now in beta, that runs music-education businesses end to end — scheduling, enrolment, billing, communication — and eighteen months of applying emergent AI across operations and planning.
Measure honestly, test cheaply, scale what worksApplications
Positions I have put my name forward for.
Each one is a full application in its own right — the letter, the record, the programming, and the references.
